TGS 2009 (Tokyo Game Show) & Dead Rising 2

TOKYO GAME SHOW 2009

Wow what a week for Blue Castle Games and Capcom!!
Dead Rising 2 was shown at a private viewing in front of 200 critics and press in Tokyo outside of the walls of TGS and was welcomed in a BIG WAY! Check out the vids below and the links to some of the screen shots and write ups to see what I mean.

GO BLUE CASTLE GAMES!!!

Terror is Reality!! Click here to see the NEW TRAILER!

There was even a contest to win a jacket like the main character Chuck Greene - there are only 2 in existence and one of them belongs to Keiji Inafune-san. Pretty sweet!

Where have I been?!

Lots has happened over the last 3 months.

The biggest news of all is that I am now a DAD!! My wife and I had our sweet little daughter on July 6th, 2009. She is an angel. I now know what it feels like to experience unconditional love. We named her after both our mothers and her middle name is after my wife's grandmother, so that's why we named her Mary-Kate Lillian MacDougall.

This was taken a few hours into the world.

Holy smokes is she growing fast! :P

You can tell I can't get enough of her, right?

Ok, last one...for now. Nom Nom Nom.

Vids will be coming shortly as well.

Jen, my beautiful wife, was an amazing warrior throughout the entire birth. In a matter of 6.5 hours after arriving at the hospital it was all done!! And we actually left the very same day too. I gotta say it's pretty rough watching your favorite person go through so much pain. I like to think I did a good job in helping her through it, at least that's what she keeps telling me.

We also moved during this time to an apartment with a killer view of Vancouver.

Tons of other things on top of that and you have yourself a very hectic few months!

I promise to be more proactive regarding my blog going forward. Promise. Not really sure who I'm giving this promise too, most likely just myself, but in any event I will be better at keeping this up to date.

Till next time!

GDC Canada 2009

Last week marked the first Game Developers Conference (GDC) in Canada!
Blue Castle Games was happy to be a part of it as a Gold member sponsor for the event. We also had 2 staff members there as speakers.
With the hype of our two upcoming games The Bigs 2 and Dead Rising 2 increasingly growing, we were ecstatic to make a big impact with our booth, which looked fantastic by the way.

The attendance was great for an inaugural event and it took place at the new and beautiful Vancouver Convention Center that boasts a grass rooftop and in addition supports 'Go Green' by way of recycling an average of 180,000 kilograms of materials annually.

We had a great deal of attention at our booth by students and professionals alike. Some were blown away by our featured trailers, some were intrigued by the information our staff were providing, others were networking, and everyone wanted our swag! Who wouldn't want a kickass foam glider plane?! Hell yeah!

We were fortunate enough to have some good press come our way as well. We were on CBC news and also on the Vancouver Province website.

It was a fantastic event, fun to see old friends, great to meet new faces and I'm really looking forward to next year's event already. Someday it may even rival the San Francisco one...

Recently Capcom invited numerous people of the press to join them in a sneak peek of some of their upcoming games in beautiful Monaco! They all were treated to an all expenses paid stay at the wonderful Monte Carlo Bay Resort. Not too shabby!

Websites and Hockey

Great week!

The studio has been hard at work getting things done and the projects are looking fantastic! I am extremely impressed by the sheer amount of work done by these very passionate professionals.
I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see this stuff. Unfortunately they are going to have to for now…but the wait will be worth it. Trust me.

BCG website upgrades are starting and we are busy shooting new video content to upload. This is going to take some time but it’ll be a lot of fun to do.

Keep an eye on it here: http://www.bluecastlegames.com/

It’s getting close to the end of our current Co-op work terms, less than 2 weeks to go. These students are phenomenal and I can say with ease that the entire studio appreciates each and every one of them and we were happy to have them as members of the team. Thanks again Skyler, Akshay, Kamil, Bronson, Ryan, and Luke – you guys rock!

As far as personal stuff going on, my wife and I are picking up a 2009 Mazda 3 GT tomorrow morning. I never thought of purchasing a Mazda before – until I sat in one. Very nice car!
Zoom zoom.

The Vancouver Canucks are in the playoffs and the city is experiencing hockey fever again. Cars with Canuck flags, and tons of people sporting their favorite team jerseys can be seen everywhere. It truly is a cool sight to see. The weather has been great the last week and more and more people are going outside to take advantage of it.

I am in complete BBQ mode now!! Mmmmm.

First Crack

Hello to Everyone!

This is my first crack at getting a blog up and running. I have been thinking about this for quite some time and have now broken free from my lackadaisacal chains to finally put this in motion.

I have lots to share about the games industry and I also want to help great talented peeps find homes within the industry as much as I can through my numerous contacts.

I also will take the time to be selfish on my blog too. That's right. I plan on putting up stuff regarding my personal life here too, which will of course be accompanied by photos and video when necessary.

So here we go! Hopefully some of the content can prove useful to others...
